Mother's Day

It's Valentine's Day tomorrow, and there'll be chocolates and roses... and whiskers on kittens - wait, wait, that's not right. There'll be mayhem on the high-street, as men from all over the place fight to get any object that's red, edible and could melt their girl's heart.

But there's another even more special day coming up; Mother's Day. And I think it's the year to spoil our mothers. So why not do so with a two hour session with me, making your mum feel really good about herself. She'll then be produced with a print in a hand-made frame (a skilled gentleman makes them for me). Make Mother's Day different this year!

You can order a voucher from my website, and, if you're cutting it a bit fine, I will deliver it in person.

Lighting

Lighting is arguably the most important element of photography. It provides mood, atmosphere and impact to any image. So, it is a shame when I see that most of the high street photographers on the market are not concentrating on their lighting. It's bland, balanced stuff that only emphasises the cheesy grins.

This is a great series of clips on Youtube that gives a fantastic introduction to lighting techniques and a few tips for portrait photography.

Pancake Day

Happy Pancake Day to everyone. I, along with most of the nation, will be flipping my heart out over the stove before hurriedly smothering my pancakes in lemon juice and sugar (the only way to eat them).

Do any of you get the feeling that we just live our lives from one holiday to the next?
